Fun Tweezer at this show. The opening to this MikeS
is wholly standard. The jam segment is very funky,
dark, eerie (tweezeresque, in a word)... a strong
jam, with everyone making a good showing. At 430
they start up an 'On Broadway' improv groove
(primarily Page and Trey, but Mike sorta joins in
here and there). They keep the On Broadway theme jam
going for awhile.. all the way up to 6:30, when they
break back into a MikeS jam, although this finale
MikeS jam has a few On Broadway teases (from Trey)
too. It is a great MikeS that is extended, but my
version cuts right as the jam was supposed to go
either into an extended jam or dissolve into H2. (!)
My B side begins with silence, then a fall down
signal, then Caravan-like drums from Fish and general
tooling around, then another fall down signal, and
THEN ANOTHER fall down signal (on which Page
apparently falls down on the keyboard and holds a
chord).
H2 starts coming in beautifully, though.. just creeps
in, starting roughly around the 9 min point (remember
my MikeS effectively cut bad at the end of side A so
the timing here might be way off). H2 is good, but
is almost too gentle in the first verse -- wispy. It
picks up, but it just doesn't flow as well as it
usually does, in my opinion. It is also, I'm afraid,
fudged badly towards the end by Trey, which
effectively ruins it. Weekapaug kicks in at 11:32,
and Mike's opening solo is really melodic, original,
and snappy&tight (towards its end). There is
magnifscent jamming from everyone in this excellent
version of Weekapaug, but nothing sooo exceptional
occurs as to warrant rating this too high. Trey is
all over the place, but then so are Mike, Page and
even Fish (who is more active than usual). Trey,
though, really is spectacular, wailing away
masterfully in this version. No spacey mellowness, no
teases. A solid MikeSGroove, but it ain't no
11/28/92, that's for damn sure. 17:17 total time,
approximately. (the H2 is too lame to give this
groove a higher rating, although the Week&MikeS are
very well above average) (B)
