Out of the forty Phish shows I've seen, this one makes my personal top ten
easily.  First of all, the venue was phat.  It reminded me alot of the
E-Centre in Utah, and we all know what happened there.  No Darkside of the
Moon in Boise, but we did get the first Peaches in two and half years and
an all around incredible show, undoubtedly the best of the five northwest
shows. First set: Chalkdust- Ask my friends.  If there is any song that I
complain about more than any other it's Chalkdust.  Anytime I do a five
show run I usually get at least three of them.  But for once I actually
enjoyed it.  It actually kind of raged.

Sloth> Curtain- My first Sloth!  Woo hoo!  I've been waiting for this song
for so long, and it was worth the wait.  Curtain is another rare one for
me,and I always love to see it.

Mellow middle of the set- After the first three ragin songs, the Waste,
Wading, What's the Use, and Farmhouse were all a nice change of pace.
These are all amongst my favorite slow tunes, and they played them all
very well.

Taste>Rocky Top- People used to complain about Taste, myself included, but
now that it's a rare song it's much more enjoyable to listen to.  And this
particular version was incredible.  I would have been content with that as
the set closer, but Rocky Top was an awesome addition to send the pumped
up crowd reeling into setbreak.

Second Set- I went absolutely beserk when I first realized the were
playing Peaches (it took a couple seconds for it to sink in).  I had just
assummed for some reason that I would never see them play it.  What a way
to open the secondset!

AC/DC Bag- How can I describe this Bag to those who weren't there?  It's
impossible to put it into words.  The best I can say is that is by far the
best Bag I've ever heard, it was twenty seven minutes long, and it took us
everywhere and back again, from mellow spaciness, to heavy funk, back into
space, and everywhere else in between.  I can't wait to hear it on tape.

Gumbo-  An unexpected but I think perfect choice to come out of that Bag.
The Another One Bites the Dust jam had sent the already incredibly high
crowd energy through the roof, and the rest of the Gumbo jam was pretty
groovy as well.

DWD- I have to admit that I was a little dissapointed at first, because in
a show like this, I was hoping for a song that would be a little more
monumental, like I don't know, a Harpua or something.  But by the end of
the jam when Trey was jumping up and down as he wailed on his guitar, I
was perfectly thrilled with Disease.  Frankenstein, was a great way to
close it too.  Overall this was the best set of music on the tour so far.

This show was just what I needed to get over my "I can't get off work to
go to Shoreline" blues.  I think that ought to hold me over until my next
shows which should be NYE.  I'll be thinking about this one for a long
long time.

Sorry this is a little late, but I had to write an article about this
concert for our student newspaper.
Anyway, we got to the lot at around 4:00 and the scene was just too
intense. Being a Deadhead for five years and Phan for a year and a half,
this was my first exposure to the lot scene of a jam band (if you don't
include moe. at Boogie's in Boise last year). We all had a real good time
there and I heard that a couple people from my college sold their tickets
in the parking lot so they could hang there instead of the show! Let me
tell you, as much as I loved the lot, the best was yet to come.
As I entered the Pavilion, I noticed that they didn't open up the top
floor for seating. However, many Phans were gathered on the floor, so I
guess they drew as many people as the last concert I saw in that place
(Jethro Tull). Getting in was a huge hastle, but we managed to get to the
front of the stage, right between Page and Mike.
Now, I have "A Live One," "Slip Stitch and Pass," and some bootlegs, but
as soon as the intro riff of Chalk Dust was played, I knew that this
concert would put those ones captured on tape to shame.
In the middle of the first set, the band jammed out of The Curtain and
into a very moving Waste. As I started dancing, I remembered that this
was Dan and Kelly's song, two of my best friends on this earth. Kelly
goes to school in Tacoma, Washington, while Dan and I study at Albertson
College of Idaho in Caldwell. They hadn't seen each other in about three
weeks. I stopped dancing and went over to him and said that this one is
for Kelly.
Another highlight of the first set was an incredible Taste-> Rocky Top.
Taste has been getting some crap over the internet for being over played,
but I still think it's one of the band's best show-off songs, musically.
3's over 2's! God, what awesome musicians!
Second set was the best hour of my college career, so far (New Year's
isn't here yet). Down With Disease was absolutly orgasmic. The whole set
can be summed up by, "Holy shit!" The encore was very good. The Hello My
Baby was in tune and wonderful (unlike the SSP version). Best concert
I've ever been to and I will see ya at New Years!

Of the thirty shows i've seen ive seen a lot of craziness,
and amazing things.  But Boise was a major treat, only
five thousand people, and floor G.A., that was not crowded
landed me front row, directly in front of Page, who was
looking a little baked.  Security was mellow, Police almost
non-existed, and for the first time ever I didn't see anybody
get arrested.
As for the music absolutely perfect!!!  !1st set came out ragin'
then mellowed and picked back up again with killer taste
Rocky top closer.  The second set was where the real genius
was.  A peaches opener, I waited in line w/ two kids from Eugene
who brought peaches, and a well worn sign that read "Peaches en
Regalia" they said they made it in '95, and were still waiting.  The
sign has since been retired.  The AC/DC bag was my highlight of the
first five shows, with a jam that started mellow, w/ trey looping several
layers (much like early summer tour this year) and then building to
a feverish and funky rage.  At this point my friends and unleashed the
hundreds of tortillas we had smuggled in, and let them fly, the band
and crowd roared its approval.  The rest of the set was solid, Gumbo>
another one bites the dust especially.  Simple jam was nice, and the Hello
a perfect sendoff for as I got to watch the boys wail just two feet in front
of
me.  Defiantly want to get this Tape!!

Boise was a great show from start to finish--a bonus for those who who

We arrived in Boise around 2:00 pm after the 5 hour drive from Salt Lake
City.  Drove straight to Boise State and claimed a spot in the lot so the
festivities could begin.  HOT weather under cloudless skies.  Great lot
scene, fun afternoon getting primed for the show.

The Boise State Pavillion was suprisingly small and the sound was killer.
Phish walked out on stage around 8:00 and immediately tore into a nice
Chalk Dust.  I was stoked when that was followed by a hard driving Sloth
then a flawless Curtain.  Things were off to a great start and I had been
hoping for some Gamehenge tunes.  One of the highlights of the first set
for me was Loving Cup.  Trey got off on Loving Cup and I remember this
being a real energy packed one.  Forgive me if I'm wrong about the
placement here, but I think there was a spaceous sounding jam in the first
set somewhere between Waste and Velvet Sea that had lots of Trey just
blistering it up with some really fast little rips that I loved.  The
Nellie Cane, Taste>Rocky Top finish was pretty hot.  Having a nice and
tight Taste, that Page lit up, sandwitched in betweeen some Bluegrass was
really fun.

I was blown away when the second set kicked off with a super nice Peaches.
Peaches worked right into a slow and funky AC/DC Bag that moved into a
super long jam that included Trey on keyboard at times.  This jam segued
into Gumbo.  The Gumbo jam included a crazy "Another One Bites the Dust"
instrumental little jam for a few minutes that got everybody hyped up. The
Down w/ Disease was probably the best one I have ever heard.  They lit
into this one with a vengence.  Trey was out of his mind as they carried
this one out for awhile.  He was bouncin' around on stage and just jumping
up and down and smiling as he soloed it out.  I think this was Trey at his
best just having a good time and really ripping Disease a new one.  I was
in awe after this Disease when they immediately fired up Frankenstein.  
Very hot finish to a great show.  The Simple encore was slow and mellow
and seemed to bring things down a bit to close out with a really nice
Hello My Baby. Thevocals were really clean on Hello My Baby and sounded
really good. Great show!!!

Hello,
Forgive me for seeming biased, snobbish, uppity, etc.  Boise was my
168th show.  Boise is also in Idaho, my home state. YO YO HOME STATE
REPRESENT, YO.   And that they did.

I won't go into the details of every song and how utterly great it was;
most hardcore folks have heard them all and it's al yata yata and so
forth, but all I can say is that the first set, including the slow
songs, was ON, in all senses of the word.  Mind you, I go to every show
basically stone sober, so I don't have that tendency to judge shows
based upon my intoxication/inebriation level. AT ANY RATE, first set was
raging, and the second set was purely mind blowing.  I haven't heard
Peaches since 12/6/96, and to include a Frankenstein as well iced the
cake. It was the first show I've been to in a long while where my
consistent words were FUCK YES!  To have it be in my home-state was
simply utterly fabulous. I've been the only person from Idaho on tour
for the last four years, and it was wonderful to see Phish perform just
as well as they did in '95, which was also an epic show.

If you are a tape collector, this is one to have.  Phish played better
and LOUDER than they have in a WHILE, and it was a great event to bear
witness to in my home state.  I hope that everyone else who attended the
event had an enjoyable time as well.

    This show was my first Phish show, and, as a newbie, I couldn't have
helped but been blown away by how awesome it was.  I remember catching
Dave Matthews in Canandaguia with my aunt after she finished a 4 day tour
with Phish and her being disgusted with how the audience was compared to
the Phish audience.  I completely agree.  The scene was so comfortable and
relaxed, everybody was nice and considerate towards one another.
    After intermission, I had to go to the bathroom, and, after a lucky
stroke, my friend and I made it back stage.  Trey and I did shots with
Fish, and we ate shrimp and greek olives.  The guys were so cool.  They
were laid-back typical Boise Idaho north-end types.  My friend made a
comment that she didn't have to suck any dick to get into the show.  
Thats true.  They didn't ask for anything from us two vulnerable teenage
girls, they just talked to us and showed us a good time.  The aftershow
party was really fun, a good time to talk to all kinds of people that were
at the show and getdifferent perspectives on their music.
    The music.  That is what really blew me away.  They communicated with
eachother on stage like no other band I've ever seen...taking each note
and chord and riff from their soul and putting it out.  It was so good
just to close my eyes and move around to the sound that immersed me.
    I am so glad I went to see Phish and that I got to meet a few of the
coolest guys in music today.  I am now a huge fan and won't miss another
concert if I can help it.

All i can say about the boise show is thank goodness we lost all the dumb
phish phans who thought boise had no soul. best show in a very long time. if
you ever want to see an awesome show go to the "boring" midwest.

small show, vancouver was huge compared to this!

first set was kinda slow moving. a couple of bone heads got on stage and
tried to stage dive! a first at a phish show, at least for me.

second set was rockin'. during disease into frankenstein trey mingle
w/crowd and tossed a guitar pick. only downer was, it was WAY to short. i
was expecting a HUGE encore, esp with all the hype out in the parking lot.
everywhere i went people were talking about utah last year and to expect
the unexpected.  my sightes were set WAY to high for this show, so in all
it was a let down. oh, well. beto

We were fairly surprised to see that the pavilion that Phish was playing
at was so small, but we were still excited as hell to see the show. I was
on a mission this time, I just had to be up front. As soon as the band
came out I knew it was going to be a good show. Each band member had a
huge smile on their face, and the atmosphere on stage was awesome. Trey
really had a chance to play with the crowd since we were right next to the
stage, several times you could see him nodding to the crowd, almost asking
them what they thought. When he went into another one bites the dust off
of Gumbo, he played the first cord and almost waited for a crowd reaction.
The band and the crowd were both on at this show, there is no doubt about
that

The Boise show was great, small crowd-probably about 5,000-6,000. The
band looked relaxed, and seemed to be having a great time. Chalk Dust was
the opener, which was killer. Sloth and Curtain were a little off, then
the show picked up big time at Loving Cup.
Wading, Farmhouse and Rocky Top were all great, Taste especially good.

The Peaches en Regalia was a great surprise, AC/DC bag jam was fabulous,
segueing into an ambient interlude. Gumbo was a little slow. Down with
Disease was as good as anything I've seem them do. Trey was jumping up
and down on the stage. Frankenstein was cool, and I loved Simple/Hello
for the encore. A great show all the way around. And Fishman is still
wearing that lovely dress.

9-14-99 Review for Boise

The show carried a 'What's the Use' theme throughout.  Lots of flat noted
jams.  Trey has really got the twangy funk guitar going.  One cool thing
that's worth mention...I sat on the front row behind the floor and just
above the soundboard and lightboard.  Watching Paul use his sound
ingenuity is a show in itself.  Same watching Chris do the lights.
Anyway, Phish unloaded a bunch of round tortillas on the crowd upstairs
and downstairs.  Everyone was throwing these discs, when suddenly, one
landed on Paul's soundboard and Mike's bass suddenly reverberated
throughout the arena.  It continued this harsh reverberation for several
seconds.  Finally, someone walked over and pointed out the intrusion to
Paul.  He seemed quite amused as he removed the flatbread.  Hats off to
Paul and Chris, I never put too much thought into what they do until this
show.  They are as awesome at their job as the band is at theirs.
