And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.

The day before this show, Trey's Grandfather, Harry Jones (aka "Granpoodie"), had passed away, which he had acknowledged from the stage that night in Hartford, CT. (It is also speculated that the rager the night before at the Spectrum was Trey trying to send his Grandfather energy through their music.) One would expect this loss to profoundly affect anyone's immediate mood, even someone as ebullient as Trey. And while effect isn't notable in the song selection for the first and second sets, the Horse-less Silent In The Morning, Heavy Things encore allows one to read between the lines and discern Trey's emotional state.
12/13/99 isn't a "dark" or "heavy" show like, say, 6/14/00 or 8/3/03, but this show is notable for the absence of rock and roll tunes (Golgi being the lone exception). Instead, the setlist highlights the groovier side of the band, along with a typically frantic Piper and an especially joyous Limb By Limb. Sand is my pick for Jamming MVP of 1999, and this standout version was deemed worthy for broadcast during the IT Festival From The Archives shows. Indeed, it's odd that a late-1.0 show with no less than 5 jam chart entries would have a rating this low - but that demonstrates how unique this show is. This Monday night show wasn't for the bros, or the pham, it was for the band; one last moment of contemplation before resuming the party in the Mid-Atlantic states.
